Foundation Honors Single Mom
and Conservation Activist in the Keys

The Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida (FWFF) wants to say thank you to Mila de Mier of Key West Florida. This single mother of three boys, business woman and conservation activist has a big heart and she has put her money where her heart is.

After another rash of pelican slashing, where someone is cutting the pouches of pelicans and leaving them to die of dehydration and starvation Mila stepped forward and offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the culprit of this senseless and mean spirited act of animal abuse.

Mila, owner of a small real estate firm Southernmost Realty, is a resident of Key West for over 18 years. She strongly believes that we must respect, love and preserve what we love. When I heard about this senseless act, she said “in these times you are either active or inactive”. We chose to act. I teach my three sons “we must recognize our mistakes and teach future generations that they can do it better.”

The Foundation salutes Mila for her generous reward donation and her passion and dedication to the conservation of Florida.

The FWFF is a 501c3 nonprofit started in 1994 as the citizen support group for what is now the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Its mission is to partner with FWC to ensure the conservation and enhancement of Florida’s fish and wildlife resources so they survive and thrive for current and future generations of Florida residents and visitors.
